Outings Visit to Southwell with Wirksworth u3a: Wednesday 15 October

Wirksworth u3a have invited us to join them on a trip to Southwell to visit the Workhouse and Infirmary on Wednesday 15 October.

The coach leaves Slacks coach garage in Matlock at 9.15am and we plan to leave Southwell at 3.15pm for our return journey. The cost of the coach is £20.

There is the option to visit The Workhouse, Infirmary and Kitchen Garden at Southwell, or do the guided Becher walk round Southwell. For those who do not wish to visit the Workhouse this is an opportunity to explore Southwell and visit the Minster. Entry to the Workhouse and Infirmary and for the Becher walk is free for National Trust members, £14.25 for non-members. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/nottinghamshire-lincolnshire/the-workhouse-and-infirmary

The Workhouse and Infirmary tours are 30 minutes long and run at 11.15 and 12.15.

The Becher walk is 2.15 hours long and takes you off site to walk around Southwell. This walk starts at 10.45am and is limited to 15 people, so please book early if you are interested. The walk includes uneven footpath and a hill and is unsuitable for a mobility scooter (tramper).

Mobility scooters are available, free of charge, to use on arrival from the Visitor Reception Building. The Hub (entrance) to The Workhouse building is approximately 130 metres from the car park along a step-free level path. Please let us know if you wish to hire a mobility scooter or wheelchair for your visit.

Infirmary Café offers hot and cold drinks, soups, sandwiches, snacks and cakes. Seating indoors and outdoors.

To make a provisional booking, please contact us at outings@matlockareau3a.org.uk as soon as possible. Please indicate if you are a NT member. As usual, it is first come first served.

We look forward to you joining us and to meeting some of our Wirksworth u3a members.
