Welcome to our New Website! Firstly we offer our thanks to a number of people who have helped us on this journey.
It has taken longer than we had hoped so we would especially like to thank Penny Ackland for her patience and for maintaining the old site while this one was built. The old site, originally built by Miles Ellis and subsequentl,y improved and enlarged by Martin Emery and then by Penny Ackland, has served us well. However changes in the company that developed the software left us in a vulnerable position where we could not update the operating system on the Apple Mac computer where it was stored. We needed a more robust system that was resilient to software changes, software provider stability, hosting company stability and last but not least, had a core of people who were all able to maintain it and cover for each other over holidays, sickness, etc.
Thanks are also due to Martin Emery and Penny Ackland for carrying out research and discussions with other U3A groups about possible replacement systems. Based upon that work, a decision was taken to start again from scratch using WordPress hosted with 1&1 Ionos, who specialise in WordPress websites. The registration of the matlockareau3a.org.uk domain remains with Namesco who took over hosting of our old site.
We are also indebted to Aughton and Ormskirk U3A who freely gave us valuable advice about building a WordPress site and what tools to use. This was a great help in those first steps into software that none of us had ever used before.
Last but not least we also need to thank Nick Higgett who started us off by delivering a basic training in WordPress and set up our first menu to set us on our way and Robin Eyre of Trailblazer360 who gave us training for the latter stages. THANK YOU EVERYONE!
Finally we should also thank our members and especially our co-ordinators for their patience.
This site will be run by a team of members. If you are interested in helping, you would be very welcome to join us. Previous knowledge of WordPress in not necessary (we did not have it!!), but general IT skills and familiarity with use of websites are desireable. If you are interested in joining the team and would like more information, please contact the web team.
Equally if you find any problems please report it to us.
