Matlock Area U3A Joins in National U3A Day

The 2nd June dawned bright and sunny. This was a welcome relief as we were going to enjoy u3a day much more with the sun shining, rather than the rain pouring down on us. With the flags standing proud, the bunting and balloons adorning the bandstand in Hall Leys Park and armed and ready with newly printed leaflets, we eagerly awaited or first victims (sorry, meant to say prospective members).

Our u3a helpers chatted to people, explained what the u3a stood for and what a thriving, welcoming and inclusive branch that Matlock Area u3a is. There was a really positive vibe about the whole event despite some trepidation when the 2nd June was first suggested as u3a Day earlier in the year. Members of the International Folk Dancing group gave a demonstration of their skills in the early afternoon and even had a few bystanders join in. All in all a good day was had by all and we have hopefully raised the profile of the u3a in Matlock.
