A number of Matlock Area U3A members have said that they would value a little advice to help them use various digital devices. Equipment such as laptops, tablets, smart phones and digital cameras or the applications that come with them such as email, eBay, PayPal, online shopping, security programmes, Apps, etc.. Some have also indicated that they would have appreciated help in getting started...

A few members who feel they may know a little about these things, either through past employment or experience, have got together and formed the "MAU3A Digidesk".

The Digidesk will be available, to offer help to overcome most problems that you may have, at the monthly Coffee Mornings with the exception of the Summer months (July, August and September).

Should you feel that you may benefit from this, if you are able to, please contact John Finch by clicking on his name. Let him know what type of equipment you have, the software and version you are running and what you would like some help with. The more detail you give the better we will be able to help, as we will endeavour to match you with someone with the most appropriate skills. If you can't, don't worry, just "Drop-In" at the next Coffee Morning Digidesk.

And always remember if you are thinking of buying a new digital device from a tablet, phone, printer etc to new software or extra memory, don't hesitate to talk to us first as we should be able help you clarify your needs and show you where to find quality reviews etc and maybe avoid some problems in the future.

In 2016, an "Internet Workshop" ran, which was attended by around thirty members. Several issues were covered, including:

How the Internet changes the way we live - shopping / holidays

Internet and telephone fraud and scams

Recognising safe websites, on-line security and anti-virus

An introduction to Windows 10

Use of the Government Gateway such as for renewing Driving Licenses and Local Services

The Government Gateway will be demonstrated and the signup, login and subscription processes explained.

No decision has yet been made as to whether more workshops will be offered. Should you wish to attend one, or would like to suggest a topic that could be included, please contact the Digidesk Coordinator.
