Boules02

Boules is an established and thriving activity in the Derbyshire Dales. Matlock Area U3A formed our first group in 2014 and added two more in 2016.

Whilst it could be likened to “aerial bowls”, it is a team game which is great fun, requiring its own skills and use of tactics! However the rules are simple and, should you wish to learn them, may be found by clicking here.

All three groups - "Un", "Deux" and "Trois" - commence the season in early April and, weather permitting, continue into the autumn. Each plays on pitches in and around Matlock and members also enjoy a drink or a meal together, making the sessions a pleasant social occasion. The groups decide where they intend to play from week to week - but usually at either Middleton Top or Tansley.

In 2016 some of the hardier members of each group expressed a wish to continue playing through the winter and formed "Boules d'hiver". This group commences play in the autumn as the others finish and continues until spring, when the others start again...
